"I went to my friends 30th birthday at the upstairs room of bar 110 last Saturday. On first arrival i was very impressed with the decor and room and we were having a great night. Unfortunatley the evening was ended abrubtly early by the manageress for absolutely no reason what so ever. She was rude to guests and claimed that a bin being knoked over in the mens tolilets (by bar members and not party guests) was damage enough to stop the party. When asked why she didn't simply ask someone to clean it up she said she wouldn't talk to people who had had a drink. Isn't people drinking how she makes her living? Even the bouncers were shocked by the events. This rude and unproffesional manageress eventually offered my friend some money back but nothing has been forthcoming and her actions alone have cost the bar much repeat business. "

"Visited Sanctum with a few friends and had a drink in the bar below before hand and had to wait for 10 minutes to get served even though the place was empty.
What made this worse was the attitude of the manageress who informed us when we asked to be served that she was not paid to serve drinks. At this point we felt like walking out but continued upstairs to have our meal.
After we ventured to the upstairs bar where we were told in a very abrupt and expletive manner that it was a members only bar once again by the very unprofessional manageress who seems not able to speak to people in polite manner.

In my opinion the food was ok but was ruined by one member of staff who has chosen to work in an industry where customer skills are vital. She lacks in every department and has now lost this particular restaurant any further business from me or my friends.

"Bar One Ten was hired by a friend of mine for her 30th Birthday Party and I have to admit I was pretty amazed with the decoration within the place. From the extravagent marble in the ground floor bar to the north african themed bar on the second and then upwards to the roof garden the whole building looked fantastic. It was a pity then for the place to be let down by certain members of staff.

The doorman could not have been more pleasent and was ten times more helpful than those that you find on doorsteps in Broad Street however on entering the bar the staff were bordering on rude with their approach and close to criminal when it came to their choice of drink when asked if they would care to take one for themselves. Having worked in the bar trade myself I would never dream of choosing a drink that cost almost double that of the customer?! As mentioned in a previous review the time taken to mix a drink was also excessive and the end results poor in comparison with Must Bar just around the corner from 110.

In conclusion 110 is fantastic on the eyes and I feel for the investors in such a place in that they have created a place of great beauty but have spoilt it with poor staff.

"We held a joint 30th birthday party at the bar and then the restaurant for a meal. Bar was gorgeous. Beautiful decor. Restaurant was the same. Staff were extremely helpful with the cake etc. Food was excellent and cheaper than some of its counterparts. Would definitely recommend in the future."

""This was such a big disappointment to us. The building is fabulous and clearly a lot of money has been spent on it, although the food and the service were a complete let down. Four of us had booked for dinner on a Saturday night, and decided to have cocktails from the bar beforehand. It took an age for the drinks to be made, and we had to pay for the drinks immediately as it was not possible to add them to our restaurant tab. Not quite what we would have expected, given that the restaurant was downstairs.

"The cocktails were also a bit of a disappointment, and the bar staff could do with a few lessons from Bank Restaurant as to how to present them properly. The restaurant had a nice ambience and again was very stylish. Surprisingly for a Saturday night, it was mostly empty and didn't really fill up at all. Having eaten there now, we are not surprised! The waitress was very nice, although you would have thought she had never poured a glass of wine. Having ordered our first bottle, she proceeded to pour all of it into the first two glasses so there was only a dribble left for the other two. She then calmly asked if we wanted another bottle!

"We were to discover that many of the starters we tried to order were inexplicably off the menu (and there wasn't a great choice anyway) and having ordered main courses, 30 minutes later again were told that one of them was not available, causing a scramble to find an alternative. My husband had ordered the steak, usually the test for a good restaurant. Having ordered it rare, surely enough it arrived closer to well done, and we were impressed at their ability to make a perfectly good fillet steak taste like a piece of old leather. Generally nobody was impressed by their main courses. In particular, the chicken tagine arrived barely lukewarm. We had dessert, mainly because the portion sizes were not huge and we needed the bulk. My husband ordered the bread and butter pudding, which when it arrived looked almost exactly like the bread and butter pudding we all remembered from our school days. Sadly it was less appetising.

"The meal was rounded off by the smoke alarms going off, and the staff standing around blankly not knowing what to do until they eventually stopped. We had the general impression of a restaurant with inexperienced staff and no decent management. God only knows what they would do if there was a genuine emergency. The meal was not cheap, having cost us £150 for four with two bottles of mediocre wine, and to be frank it was not worth a penny. To add insult to injury, they had included a "discretionary" 12.5% service charge. We certainly would not recommend it to anybody else - save your money and go somewhere decent like Valentino or Buonissimo in Harborne!""

""I have to echo the comments made about One Ten. It's a lovely place, but it doesn't seem to have any customers, which is a shame. It wasn't the fact that we sat in an empty restaurant on a Friday night that bothered me, it was the food and the staff attitude. The food was, to be honest, very boring and old hat. It was all very salty and the portions were just too small. We left hungry in the end. Our waiter looked like we were putting him out, just by being there. The Restaurant is very nice, but the blue neon in the bar area within it, makes it look really cheap. There are more staff than customers, well there was the night we eat and no one looks like they know what they're doing. We asked if a wine could be recommended and our waiter suggested red! No more specifics then, we thought?

"We retired to drink our coffee in the bar area where we were drowned out by a God awful racket being churned out by their 'DJ'. Staff loitering around the bar area with what I think were the doorstaff and no sense of management whatsoever. I doubt this place is owned by a professional team, it certainly didn't come across as beng professional in any shape or form. I will be avoiding One Ten, at all costs from now on and I wholly recommend you all do. Pretty shocking experience and not a touch on Hotel du Vin or BANK.""

""I have enjoyed many fantastic nights out in this contemporary, classy establishment. It is exactly the type of place that Birmingham needs to help put the city back on the map for exciting yet sophisticated nightlife, quality cuisine and choice. The bar is beautifully done out and the restaurant downstairs provides a calm, romantic ambience for diners. It is also perfect for entertaining clients as the staff are well trained and the food and wine on offer are superb. 110 offers a private membership scheme where people can enjoy more exclusive service in a separate bar / function room upstairs and a quirky cigar room. All in all a welcome and much needed addition to the city's hospitality industry.""

""What a fabulous night - I have read a few of the reviews and wonder what on earth they are going on about. We have a great evening, we sat and had a leisurely drink in the most gorgeous bar, it was so romantic and the "Sancerre Rose" was to die for.
The restaurant was busy and the menu had a strong international presence but we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The portions were excellent and the service was both professional and friendly.
We had booked prior and I had agreed to go to the Jazz night - not really my scene but we had a fantastic night - Ian (I think that was his name) was brilliant - witty and with the most beautiful voice and the girl (can't remember her name) but she was outstanding - we stayed right to the end and everyone had a fantastic time.
People are very quick to criticise these days but I can't find a bad word to say - It was Great. To Roz and all your staff, well done and we look forward to the next one. ""
