I like this place a lot. Went a few months ago to a workmates 40th birthday party. The food was great, we had enough Bajis to sink a ship. The service was excellent considering this was a party of over 100 people that all had to fed and watered! After a hard afternoons eating we danced the evening away to some great Bangra and party tunes.

Actually called Asha's and owned by Asha Bhosle; an extremely influential Indian musician who was awarded a BBC Lifetime Acheivement Award in 2002 by Tony Blair. The first of the Asha's restaurants was opened in Dubai then in Kuwait and now (thankfullly) in Birmingham - The Curry Capital of the UK.

Her own recipes, along with the Head Chef's, are brought together on a varied menu containing a mixture of traditional favourites from Butter Chicken and Lamb Vindaloo to one of Asha's own, inspired from her travels; Muscat Gosht - boneless lamb in a butter and rich tomato gravy.

The decor is modern yet still retains hints of authenticity. The staff are incredibly welcoming, genuine and friendly. The food, needless to say by this point, is delicious. This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the City Centre. The portions are filling - especially the starters. One worth trying is the Chicken Tikka Chaat; which is a tongue-tingling mould of cold, spicy chicken morsels served with a sweet chutney.

Starters cost around £5, mains are around £10 - dinner for two including two courses and a bottle of wine should come to about £45.

They also have a fairly large bar area that is popular on Friday nights with the after-work-drinks crowd.

Their cocktails are absolutley spectacular and most are just under £6. Their Strawberry Daquiri is the best I have tasted since a holiday in Key West a year ago! It might even be better... but don't tell those Floridians...

Their UK website can be hard to find on search engines, so if you have heard enough and want to book, check out http://www.ashasuk.co.uk
